Plethoric! Luis Matos was the Player of the Week

The outfielder set two records for the San Francisco Giants

louis matos He closed a magnificent week in his short career in the Major Leagues. The Venezuelan outfielder was recognized this Monday as the Player of the Week in the National League.

For the American League, Aaron Judge took the honors by hitting .500 with three home runs, five doubles and five RBIs for the Yankees.

Matos hit .385 with two home runs, 16 RBIs, three doubles and three runs scored with the San Francisco Giants. Additionally, he shined defensively with a pair of catches in center field.

In fact, the Venezuelan established two records with his racing production. The first was that he drove in 15 runs in his first six games of the season and set the franchise record.

And if that were not enough, Luis Matos broke a record set by Puerto Rican Orlando Cepeda. This is the highest number of RBIs for a club striker whose age does not exceed 22 years.

Cepeda, who has been in the Cooperstown Hall of Fame since 1999, drove in nine runs in consecutive games for the Giants in 1959, in his second season with the Giants, at the age of 21.

The most impressive thing about Matos' award is that he has only played eight games in the season with those from the Bay, in which he has an average of .333.

Matos is the first Venezuelan to win the Player of the Week in the 2024 MLB season. The last Venezuelan to win the award was José Altuve on September 11, 2023.
