This Friday, August 6, 411 years since the appearance of the Holy Christ of La Grita are commemorated and the parishioners will pay virtual veneration for the covid-19 pandemic.
This significant celebration began Wednesday night with a beautiful serenade, as reported by the priest Jesús Mora Calderón, parish priest of the Basilica of the Holy Spirit of La Grita.
On February 03, 1610, due to the earthquake that destroyed the city of La Grita, the Franciscan friars moved to a village in the municipality called Tadea. Among them was a sculptor who distinguished himself more for his piety than for his artistic flights. His name was Fray Francisco. Terrified by the earthquake that in a few moments reduced the nascent population to dust, he offered to heaven, according to tradition, "to make an image of the crucified, to render special worship to him and to consecrate the new city to him."
The Holy Christ is a masterpiece carved in cedar wood, begun by Fray Francisco 411 years ago and finished by the angels, in the chapel of the Franciscan friars in Tadea, a village located a few minutes from the city of the Holy Spirit, said the presbyter.
«In the Basilica the parishioners will be allowed momentary entry, entering through the biosafety module and they will leave through the other door - for a few minutes, to give them the opportunity. However, the call we are making is to follow all activities virtually through the YouTube channel: Santo Cristo de La Grita, "he said.
Calderón said, "We ask the pilgrims to use their masks correctly, social distancing, washing or disinfecting their hands, we also urge them not to attend if anyone is sick, has symptoms, please do not go near La Grita, do not make a pilgrimage to the Holy Christ, it can be dangerous, but make a pilgrimage at another time of the year, "he said.
Among the planned activities are: on Saturday, August 7, we will take out at 1 pm from the Diocesan Sanctuary with the replica of the Holy Christ, to tour the entire city of La Grita to also carry the image for all those who cannot attend and will culminate in the Tadea Village.
