Anzoatiguenses celebrated the descent of the Virgen de la Candelaria

Authorities and devotees of the Virgen de la Candelaria celebrated this Saturday, January 8, the descent of the sacred image in the Mariano Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria Sanctuary, located in Cantaura, capital of the Pedro María Freites municipality of Anzoátegui state.

The activity marks the beginning of the Bolivarian Cantaura Fairs and Festivities that are held annually in honor of the patron saint of Anzoátegui, according to Mayor Dalinda Materán.

At five in the afternoon, an illuminated rosary was held in the temple and a solemn Eucharist in the iconic obelisk of Cantaura, to later descend from her niche to the Virgin of La Luz that the shanty town has venerated for 284 years.

In the organization of the emotional reunion of the image with its people, religious authorities of the area, apostolic groups, representatives of state institutions and authorities of the Fair Foundation participated.

The mayor reported that the pilgrimage of the image of the patron will begin on Monday, January 10, at the mayor's office "as is tradition," at 6 in the afternoon with a religious service.

Materán indicated that for Wednesday, February 2, when the day of the patron saint of Anzoátegui is celebrated, two masses will be held, one at 10 in the morning and another at 6 in the afternoon in the Recreational Worship Walk, which is part of the Virgin of La Candelaria Complex.

For his part, the vice president of the Fundación de Ferias Bolivarianas de Cantaura (Funfeboca), Derby Páez reported that on January 14 they will announce the programming of musical, cultural and sports shows that they are preparing.
