Playground Games sets release window for Fable

The reboot of the long-awaited fantasy RPG will arrive on Xbox Series X|S, PC and Game Pass sometime in 2025

One of the most anticipated Xbox games is, without a doubt, the reboot of Fable developed by Playground Games since it was announced in 2020 together with Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3 and else. Last year it revealed its first cinematic trailer, and now, at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, we have a new trailer and a more specific launch window for 2025.

If you lived under a rock all this time, Fable is an RPG video game saga set in a fantasy world when it first arrived in 2004 for Xbox 360 and PC thanks to Lionhead Studios, a studio led by the infamous Peter Molyneux.

Now another trailer has been released showing a combination of cinematics and gameplay. It also reveals that the game will launch in 2025, on Xbox Series X/S and PC (with Game Pass available from day one).

“What does it mean to be a hero?” It reads in the game description. “In last year's trailer, that question was answered by Dave, a gardener-turned-giant with a grudge. This year, we get a much darker take on Humphry, played by British comedy actor Matt King."

“Humphry was once Albion's greatest hero, but those glory days are long gone. In Fable, Humphry will be forced out of retirement when a mysterious figure from his past threatens the very existence of Albion.”

Playground Games also confirmed its collaboration with Eidos Montreal, who will support the continued development of Fable.

The CEO of Microsoft Gaming trusts the quality of the new Fable

In 2021, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said players should be confident in the quality of the game given Playground's pedigree.

“The only thing I can really say about Fable is looking at the pedigree of the team and Playground, and where they set the bar for themselves in creating a game. I think that was shown with the Forza Horizon 5 preview they had,” Spencer said.

“I think people should trust that [studio head] Gavin [Raeburn] and the team there have the same level of focus on making something amazing with an IP that we know is really important to a lot of Xbox fans, so “I can’t wait to show more, but the team is just amazing.”
