President of Parlasur disrespects mandate to swear in Venezuelan deputies

The National Assembly (AN) denounced that the current president of the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur), Celso Russomanno, disregarded his duties by not allowing the full incorporation of Venezuela before the regional instance.

The complaint was made this Wednesday by the vice president of the AN, Iris Varela, in an appearance before the media this Wednesday, at the Federal Legislative Palace in Caracas, AVN reported.

She explained that Russomanno "ignores the recommendations of what to do, such as our full presence," Varela stressed.

In this regard, the deputy explained that a commission was formed that will travel to Montevideo, Uruguay in the next few days to meet with the members of the board of directors.

The delegation will be made up of deputies Saúl Ortega and Oscar Rondero, after an invitation from the board of directors.

Varela added that the president of Parlasur, linked to the president of Brazil, the extreme right, Jair Bolsonaro, is ignoring the mandates and regulations.

In addition, it refuses to fulfill its institutional duties so that those who make up this parliament can fulfill their functions, said the vice president of the AN.

"There is no other explanation why Venezuela is prevented from exercising its rights as a member of Mercosur," she emphasized.

In mid-May, the Venezuela Chapter of the Parliament of the South was formally installed in Caracas.

The Venezuelan delegation is chaired as head by Saúl Ortega and as vice president of this international body, Iris Varela.
