The Government of Venezuela, speaking by its permanent representative to the UN-Geneva, Héctor Constant, stressed that social investment continues in the country despite the negative impact of the sanctions.
In the framework of the 48th ordinary session of the UN Human Rights Council, which operates in the Swiss city, Constant highlighted that more than 7,5 million families benefit from food distribution through the Clap program; the Great Venezuela Housing Mission has delivered more than 3.600.000 decent homes; and mass vaccination against covid-19 is advancing, tripling efforts to immunize 300 people daily.
The diplomat also said that Venezuela appreciates that High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet has recognized the negative impact of the Unilateral Coercive Measures on the enjoyment of human rights in Venezuela and has requested their lifting from the countries that impose them.
Ambassador Constant Rosales reminded the High Commissioner that since her last report, the United States Government has continued its siege against Venezuela with the imposition of illegal MCUs that cause death, pain and suffering to the people, and that billions of millions of people continue to be kidnapped. dollars in foreign banks, which deprives the Venezuelan State of essential resources to acquire food, medicines and medical supplies.
He noted that during her visit to Venezuela in February of this year, the Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of the MCU, Alena Douhan, confirmed the damage caused by these measures to the well-being of the people.
Constant provided data on the progress of cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner (OHCHR), which is based on a Letter of Understanding initially signed in 2019 and renewed in September for one more year, specifying that the number of officials of the instance in the country and that since September 12, the Office carried out 2020 visits to detention centers and field missions in at least 24 states.
