Venezuela present at the IV Conference of Small Island States

Supports the measure to restructure the financial and multilateral system to provide support to Small Island Developing States

Venezuela participates in the IV United Nations International Conference on Small Island Developing States, an event that takes place in Antigua and Barbuda, supporting the request for the urgent restructuring of the financial and multilateral system, as a priority for the lives of our people.

In this regard, it specifies that the delegation is made up of the Vice Minister for the Caribbean, Raúl Licausi, the Vice President of the Caribbean Subcommittee of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, Dr. Soraya Silva, and the Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda, Carmen Velásquez .

It should be noted that the United Nations (UN) has indicated that the Island States face a climate, economic and health crisis.

Small island developing states are 39 member nations of the UN and 20 that are not members of the organization.

Information portals report that the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, urged the international community on Sunday to “mobilize the resources” that Small Island Developing States need and to give “priority” to the fight against the climate crisis.
