The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, welcomed the memorandum of understanding agreed between the Government and the opposition of Venezuela in the framework of the dialogues that are being held in Mexico.
«El secretario general saluda la firma de un memorando de entendimiento entre el Gobierno de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela y la Plataforma Unitaria de Venezuela para el inicio de un proceso completo de negociación y alienta a las partes a comprometerse totalmente a un diálogo significativo e inclusivo con respeto por los derechos humanos», dijo el vocero en rueda de prensa, refiere Prensa Latina.
Through a statement released by the office of his spokesperson, the incumbent encouraged them to fully commit to an inclusive and meaningful dialogue, with full respect for human rights.
He also reiterated his strong support for Norway's facilitation efforts and welcomes Mexico's willingness to help, as the host country, and the Netherlands and Russia as accompanying nations.
Guterres also echoed the call to all members of the international community to support a negotiated solution that is owned and led by Venezuelans themselves.
Just a few hours ago, representatives of the Government of Caracas and the opposition Plataforma Unitaria closed their first two-day meeting in Mexico with signs of progress in the complex negotiation, according to press reports.
The meeting was held within an apparent climate of tranquility and without any disturbances of any kind having transpired.
