The Minister of Popular Power for Communication and Information, Freddy Ñañez, proposed to the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), the creation of an alliance to generate a joint communication policy that allows not only show on a daily basis the differentials and points of unification of economic, political and social proposals, but also facilitate the dismantling of false news that seek to promote hateful messages, creating "preludes to military invasions and economic aggressions."
At the meeting of High Authorities of the Communication and Information Area of ALBA-TCP, Minister Ñañez said that it is necessary to proceed to the articulation of state and public spaces to permanently convene the political debate, to make the defense in a timely manner that corresponds to the media sieges of the large corporations that obey the imperial projects of the United States and the contempt of old Europe.
“It is necessary the cultural riches, social experiences, history and the vocation for the future that our transformation projects have. These challenges that have occurred in the field of traditional mass media, today move and present new questions in the face of the emergence of social networks, a phenomenon that 10 years ago, the world celebrated as the panacea of absolute freedom and that with over the years in the face of controversial events, social networks have been revealing their true character "- he added
Next, he said that there must be an important debate at the social, political and technical level, within the framework of democratic health and the sovereignty of countries, on this new form of "digital authoritarianism", where social networks operate as true actors espionage and data theft; in addition to being interventionists in the opinion and in the development of the communications that must always be given.
Ñañez, emphasized that “today, social networks have abrogated the right to censor and stigmatize what is not relevant to the corporate project, which is to say what is not relevant to the North American empire. Therefore, although they provide an extraordinary opportunity to articulate and delve into this terrain of the battles of ideas. We must also think in terms of the State of Government and democracy what social networks imply. We have seen with amazement how social networks behave like supergovernments, using cyberspace, deciding who to silence and who to give the floor and against whom the smear campaigns are undertaken ”.
He recalled that recently President Nicolás Maduro was censored from his Facebook account for spreading a Venezuelan-engineered retroviral called Carvativir and previously also for spreading a Venezuelan-engineered medical treatment with the R10 molecule. It calls powerfully that at a time when the world is experiencing a terrible pandemic, where solutions and alternatives are urgent, an algorithm from Facebook and social networks exclusively pursue all messages that have to do with solutions and alternatives for our countries in the face of this pandemic.
Minister Freddy Ñañez stressed that "in the face of this digital authorism that freely promotes hate campaigns, false news, manipulation of public opinions and that also generates a state of vulnerability in our populations, it is therefore necessary to update the thinking, philosophies and what corresponds to our legal frameworks to continue building communication. Today it is shown that there are no small countries, that we are all part of this same ship that is planet earth and we have something to contribute to the inexorable challenges that humanity has with respect to climate change and the need to build fairer societies " .
“Today the world requires renovating responses and they will not emerge from the models of capitalism or its neoliberal version that have demonstrated their incompetence when facing big problems and that have revealed their true face, which is the face of contempt for the most vulnerable sectors, contempt for the peoples of the world ”- finally said the Minister for Communication and Information.
