After the Agreement to demand respect for Alex Nain Saab Morán's status as a diplomat was unanimously approved within the National Assembly, the president of the Venezuelan Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, said that “the United States, as a signatory of the Vienna Convention, commits an act of immeasurable hypocrisy”
He recalled that today during the hearing held this Wednesday in Georgia, USA, the precepts established in this convention were highlighted in order to enforce the immunity of Alex Saab, who is a plenipotentiary member of the Dialogue Commission of the Bolivarian Government that is settled in Mexico and signed a Memorandum of Understanding that establishes that government representatives will enjoy the same immunity enjoyed by members of a diplomatic corps and is also a diplomat before the African Union and a diplomat before the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Federation From Russia.
Article 29 of the Vienna Convention establishes that: “The person of the diplomatic agent is inviolable. He cannot be subject to any form of detention or arrest. The receiving State will treat him with due respect and will adopt all appropriate measures to prevent any attack on his person, his freedom or his dignity, ”says the document.
Rodríguez emphasized the inviolability of the condition of a diplomatic agent like Alex Saab, since he insisted on describing the actions against him as an "act of immeasurable hypocrisy",
“We know of drug traffickers who have their farms in Colombia next to DEA headquarters, we know of arms traffickers who enjoy protection from countries of the so-called international community. We know that there is a convention that allows diplomatic relations to exist, that the representation of countries exist and are respected since the birth of diplomacy between States, even in war situations, the condition of a diplomat is respected," he said.
He recalled that the government of Cape Verde subjected a diplomatic representative of the Republic of Venezuela to unspeakable forms of mistreatment.
“They kidnapped, tortured, physically and psychologically mistreated and subjected to isolation a Venezuelan diplomatic representative, which is nothing more than an act of retaliation, of revenge, they are foams of rage that come from the imperial centers, because Alex Saab helped this government and this people to avoid the most brutal attack that the Republic has received in 150 years”.
“Saab's mission was to bring food and medicine to the Venezuelan people. There are so many arms and drug traffickers that some are even presidents and vice presidents of countries that serve the empire. This is the real reason for the cruelty against Álex Saab”.
You should be ashamed if you had the government of Cape Verde for the unworthy acts perpetrated against Saab. It is shameful of a country that prides itself on respecting its rule of law, as the US maintains this act of revenge and retaliation.

The president of the parliament appointed a Special Commission made up of the deputies: Pedro Infante, Carola Chávez, Ilenia Medina, who will be in charge of bringing the diplomat's wife, Camila Fabri de Saab, the agreement established by the Venezuelan Parliament
Alex Saab was illegally detained in Cape Verde on June 12, 2020, a country that complied with an alleged Interpol Red Alert which was made public with the non-coinciding date of June 13, one day after perpetrating the act.
Likewise, the International Police informed the Venezuelan Government on June 25, 2020 that the Red Alert had been canceled and that there was no data in the system records about Alex Saab. Leaving again in evidence that his arrest was riddled with irregularities.
Among the arguments of the defense is that Alex Saab Morán was designated as a "Special Envoy of the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (...) to carry out steps aimed at guaranteeing the commercial and humanitarian procurement of essential goods and services."
