Celebrations must be carried out with anticovid measures

The holiday season is conducive to the reunion of family and friends, but the current health situation has forced governments to implement preventive measures and protocols to contain covid-19.

In general, due to the occurrence of contagions from the pandemic, declared last March, the ways of celebrating have been rethought in all daily aspects: religion, sport and more; Christmas festivities are no exception. Although individual and collective protection may be obvious, bodies such as the World Health Organization have stressed the need to exercise caution on Christmas Eve and the end of the year.

WHO recommends wearing masks and that meetings be held outdoors; and in the case of internal sites, it is necessary to ensure ventilation and limit the number of people.

Particularly in Europe, the multilateral body warned of a high risk for the first days of 2021 as a result of the Christmas holidays. It refers in a statement that the "risk of a third wave is there" and urged citizens to "assess their decisions" and comply with the basic measures so that Christmas is "calm and safe."

The main thing is to consider, individually, the risks to which you are exposed. Covid-19 is a disease derived from the Sars-Cov-2 virus, which is fatal and causes severe damage to the respiratory system. Those who present symptoms such as fever or sore throat should be a focus of attention for those leading a dinner or celebration this Christmas.

Family planning

Prudence in this case is decisive, say epidemiology specialists. They explain that those who have a cough or symptoms of general discomfort should not go to the home of their parents, grandparents or other relatives.

For all this, it is important to do a planning that implies having the minimum sanitary controls, especially if there are older adults or people with underlying diseases in the circle. In addition, the documents and informative materials of the health authorities must be known to identify the risks and possible cases.

In this sense, according to the protocol of the Ministry of Health, a suspected case of covid can refer to “a person with mild or severe acute respiratory disease of unspecified cause who, during the 14 days prior to the onset of symptoms, had history of having lived or traveled to a country with local transmission or by contact with a confirmed case in the last two weeks before the onset of symptoms ”.

Also a person with a severe acute respiratory infection who manifests fever and at least one sign that makes it difficult to breathe, and who requires hospitalization without another etiology that fully explains the clinical presentation, and for any alert, they recommend calling 0800VIGILAN or the nearest health authority for clinical epidemiological guidance.

Therefore, the customary visit to neighbors in this pandemic circumstance is not an option either. Going from house to house to give the embrace of peace and union that is customary in Venezuelan communities can be dangerous in the current context. In relation to this, Nairobith Yin, inhabitant of the Coche parish, explained to Últimas Noticiasher plan for this period.

She commented that this year the tradition of celebrating the arrival of the New Year with her family and neighbors will not change. However, she indicated that she will maintain basic preventive measures such as the use of a mask and will give antibacterial gel to those who visit her home. She stated that every December they usually go out minutes after Christmas or receive the New Year to "give their good wishes to their friends and family", but this year "I will go with my mask and as far away as possible."

Virtual initiatives

Initiatives have also emerged on web platforms to celebrate with parties and carols during this unusual year of the modern era. The Eventoplus.com portal indicates that singing "virtual Christmas carols" is a way to keep the holiday tradition alive. It proposes to make a connection with family and friends through applications and video calls.
Despite these possibilities, people like Paul Martínez, from the Valles del Tuy, Miranda state, added that this time he will not plan anything special; “Just a dinner with my mother, brother and wife. Since the pandemic began, we have rarely gone out. Me and my wife work from home. For Christmas we are going to eat and celebrate in the garden of our house ”.

Before Christmas time, some countries took measures to control the contagion of covid-19 and avoid new waves of cases in the year 2021. For example, in Germany it was recently announced that on December 23 and the next January 10 meetings will be allowed with a maximum of 31 people, but the anticovid measures will remain in force. Instead, Giuseppe Conte, the prime minister of Italy, said the restrictions for December 1 will be extended until January 07 at 00:XNUMX a.m.

In Latin America, some governments have also established conditions in this regard; The Chilean Executive pointed out that it will not allow massive events from 08:00 at night on December 24 to 05:00 on the morning of December 26; The same time slot for the 31st but until January 2, 2021. On the 25th they will implement a curfew from 02:00 to 05:00 in the morning.

In the same order, Venezuela, a country in the region that has been valued as one of the best in handling the crisis, declared a general easing with more than 50 economic sectors from last November 30 until the last day of the year. However, the biosanitary plan established by the national government is still in force and the quarantine will resume in January with 14 days to cut the transmission chains, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, announced last Sunday.

  • Those who plan to see other family or friends for these dates, it is important that they complete a quarantine before.
  • On the trip it is advisable to wear a mask, wash your hands and limit contact with other people.
  • For the day of dinner, using disposable cutlery, plates and glasses is the best option; not sharing them is one way to exercise extreme caution.
  • At the doors or in certain places in the home, place hygiene items for hand washing and constant disinfection.
  • If any of the guests have symptoms of flu or any illness, it is recommended that they do not attend the celebration.
  • The event should be short compared to previous years.
  • Enabling a space for the guests' shoes is ideal.
