Russian Vice Chancellor: Return of Russian Ambassador Depends on US Policy

The US accused Russia of intervening in the 2020 elections to harm Biden's campaign

The return of Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov to the United States will depend on Washington's policy, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Wednesday.

The envoy will not leave for Washington anytime soon, and Moscow is watching the steps the United States will take to normalize relations with Russia, Ryabkov said.

Consultations between the Russian authorities and Antonov are ongoing, he reported.

Relations between the two countries reached a new low after a recent US intelligence report accused Russia of interfering in the 2020 US presidential election with the aim of damaging Joe Biden's campaign.

In an unprecedented move, the Russian Foreign Ministry convened Antonov on March 21 for high-level consultations in Moscow amid deteriorating Russian-American relations. / Xinhua
