The Moderna pharmaceutical company announced this Friday that it had delivered the first results of its clinical trials to the European authorities for the evaluation of a third booster dose against covid 19 in order to obtain their authorization.

"We are satisfied to have requested a conditional marketing authorization from the European Medicines Agency for our booster (vaccine) candidate at the dose level of 50 micrograms," the US pharmaceutical company said in a statement, which two days ago did the same before the United States authorities.

Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel noted that additional studies and analysis "show that a 50-microgram booster dose" of its COVID-19 vaccine "elicits strong antibody responses against the delta variant."

"We remain committed to staying ahead of the virus and following the epidemiological evolution of SARS-CoV-2," he added.

The company explained that the second phase of the clinical study was modified to include the third dose given "approximately" 6 months after the second.

In August, the FDA began recommending the use of a third dose for people with weakened immune systems, such as organ transplant patients, people with HIV, or some cancer patients, who did not have an adequate immune response to the first two. vaccines.

Recently, the US authorities also announced plans to begin offering the booster dose to the general population that has received the mRNA vaccines (Moderna and Pfizer) beginning the week of September 20 for those who have received the initial two doses more ago. eight months.

This, however, has yet to be cleared by the FDA and the country's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
