Petro returns control of Monómeros to Venezuela

Pequiven appointed a new Board of Directors for the company to resume the administration of the company

The Venezuelan government is retaking control of the Monómeros company, after President Gustavo Petro ordered through the Superintendence of Companies of that country that the administration of the agrochemical be returned to the Venezuelan state, as confirmed by the portal Zero zone from Colombia.

In this context, the Petrochemical of Venezuela (Pequiven), majority owner of the company, appointed a new board of directors for Monómeros Colombo Venezolanos SA to replace the one that took over Monómeros after Iván Duque confiscated it in 2019 to hand it over to Juan Guaidó.

According to the Colombian media The Herald, on August 8, Pequiven introduced a document signed by its president, Pedro Rafael Tellechea Ruiz, before the Barranquilla Chamber of Commerce with the list of names of the Venezuelan team that will assume legal control of Monómeros, information confirmed by the former congressman and member of that business association, César Lorduy.

The appointment of these managers came after a meeting of the main shareholders, including Copequin, Fertilizadores de Oriente, International Petrochemicals Holding Limited and Pequilago.

According to the document made known to the media, the new board of directors of the company, which is based in the Colombian city of Barranquilla, will be made up of the following: Luis Enrique Molina, Heifred Segovia, Eduardo Fernández Anaya, Mary Yerman Nava and Genesis. Rum Solano. In addition, they will be as substitutes: Rosa Díaz, Ninoska Rodríguez, Nohemy Rodríguez, Marco Aurelio Piñero, Sergio Arias and Graed García Bocaranda.

The current directors opposed and denounced the act, refers the portal Zero zone.

However, the decision remained in the hands of the Supersociedades and the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro, ordered it to return the company to the Government of Venezuela.

This action by the government, which has not yet provided details on the procedure, coincides with the recent decision of the Superintendence of Companies of Colombia - the government body in charge of auditing companies in that country - to eliminate the maximum degree of supervision which he had held in Monomeros since September 2021.

In parallel, the update of the Monomer registry was requested in the Barranquilla Chamber of Commerce, a private body controlled by Uribe businessmen, and for the time being an internal debate is being held on the point.

Cásar Lorduy, who was a member of the Chamber of Representatives for the department of Atlántico, has come out against all events and threats from the Colombian right:

For his part, President Petro has not referred to the case explicitly, although this Friday he showed his clear interest in the total reactivation of the company in statements to the press when talking about the food shortage:

“Fundamental purposes in that agenda, is to ensure that the price of fertilizers to produce the field in Colombia can be substantially reduced in order to lower the price of food… there is a company there that is fundamental for this, located in Barranquilla, but Colombian-Venezuelan property, which must fulfill that mission”.

Falling production after the kidnapping of the company by Guaidó

In 2018, the production of Monomers was more than 800.000 tons and was at 92% of its total operating capacity, while during 2019, once taken over by Guaidó, the figure dropped to 22%, that is, just 176.000 tons.

The irregularities in Monómeros during the passage of Guaidó have not only been denounced by the Venezuelan government, but even its own allies have warned about the opaque management of those who were left in charge.

Within the so-called "interim government" there are tensions with the current situation of the company and they intend to point the current "president", the Venezuelan Guillermo Rodríguez Laprea, as responsible for the illegal acts committed in the company, as well as Diana Bracho, named by Guaidó as head of another parallel board in Pequiven.

  1. The most serious responsibility for bribery for violating the legal system belongs to the ineffable Iván Duque…. The rest is makeup.

  2. To jail Juan Guaido and all his combo for false Venezuela has only one president and his name is Nicolás Maduro Moros

  3. Things must take their place respecting the rights of each one if we live where rights are respected, because I see that Duque never respected him and one of his closest neighbors, surely history will put him in the right place. Long live Peace and good relations between peoples.

  4. What do you mean to say that the Chamber of Commerce is in the hands of Uribistas? That is the objective that goes wrong for Petro, no. I think Mr. Lorduy is going to make another mistake and since Barranquiil will oppose it, the people have to defend everything because they have egocintrated everything, Barranqulla on its feet If it comes to the street we will go to

  5. Sincerely, President Gustavo Petro is acknowledging to the President of Venezuela, Nicola Maduro, the duty to be the right of the Montoneros to administer it as the right of all Venezuelans, and that Guido Juan, let's hope that Petro will ask his cabinet to judge Guaido Juan and all his justice team. 9. And that decision of Supersociedades to eliminate the maximum degree of supervision, is it in order to facilitate the continuation of corruption? Let's not forget that Monomeros was intervened in 2018 due to the high degree of corruption it had; so both the directive that existed at that time, and the one appointed by Guaido later, must be duly prosecuted in Colombian courts. It is not about political sympathies, but about honest management of the company...

  10. Governments or states should not manage companies, they should be in private years...the same will happen...prosperity will be for the politicians who will fill their hands stealing the coffers of the state
