Businessman warns that blockade hinders reactivation with Venezuela

Representatives of the two countries met at the Fedecámaras Carabobo event

The blockade against Venezuela makes it difficult to reactivate trade with Colombia, said yesterday Juan Felipe Vallejo, representative of the Colombian Chamber of Clothing and Related Products from Valencia, where the Fedecámaras Carabobo 2023 business expo is held until today.

"In reality it is not easy (to reactivate trade) with the blockades that Venezuela has," said Vallejo, one of the 28 Colombian businessmen participating in the event, which is taking place at the Hesperia WTC Hotel Convention Center.

He expressed that they hope that the governments of both nations, which reestablished their relations last August, after more than three years of rupture, "fix this problem", at the negotiating tables where "they are sitting", so that the money generated by the entrepreneurs through business to reach the other country.

"This is an issue that (...) the governments will clarify," said Vallejo, who sees this meeting with his Venezuelan counterparts as an opportunity to obtain tools that help the Colombian Executive move towards the right path.

He assured that the members that make up the exploratory mission of the Andean country have been "shocked" to see that the Venezuelan private sector "is moving forward and does not want to let its sector fall."

For his part, the manager of the Coffee Region of the National Association of Foreign Trade (Analdex) of Colombia, Jesús Saldarriaga Gaviria, told the EFE agency that, during the event, face-to-face interviews with businessmen have been carried out. Venezuelans from different sectors, with the aim of learning about business opportunities and achieving mutual benefit.
