From January 12 to 16, social networks will become a great theater for Venezuelan puppeteers to celebrate National Puppet Day, which this year will pay tribute to the puppeteer, director of the group La Lechuza Andariega, Yrayma Vásquez.
The second edition of the event will have a program that includes functions of various pieces, they reported in a press release.
Panchito Mandefuá, from the group La Pareja; Naku's Diary of a Bag; Matías Geográfica, from Títeres Media; and The Little Prince, are some of the pieces that can be enjoyed through the channel on the youtube platform, of the International Puppet Union, Venezuela chapter: Unimaweb Venezuela.
Likewise, there will be a series of talks that will revolve around the art of puppetry and its connection with education, health, new techniques and history.
In addition, in various states of the country, the puppet groups that are members of Unima: the Movement of Puppeteers of Zulia, the Los Cokitos de Los Teques group and the Aragua State Cabinet of Culture will also offer a program to celebrate the date.
This second celebration of the National Puppet Day will be dedicated to a puppeteer teacher from Barinas who lives in Aragua, Yrayma Vásquez, who passed away on December 13.
Vásquez made a great contribution to the puppet theater in Venezuela. She worked as a teacher and was in charge of spreading her art in schools, communities and health institutions, which she regularly visited with her group and which made her known for her great social vocation.
The National Puppet Day has been celebrated since last 2019, when Unima Venezuela carried out a vote in which January 12 was chosen because it is the date from which the oldest document in which a puppet function is mentioned dates. .
