The Mérida police forces dismantled an operation to resell medicines and supplies delivered by the national government to the University Hospital of Los Andes, an action that allowed the capture of two citizens and the seizure of supplies with a value of more than 1,491 million bolivars.
This was announced by the protector of Mérida, Jehyson Guzmán, at a press conference held this Saturday at the headquarters of the State Police, according to a press release from CorpoMérida.
"It is a procedure developed from intelligence work, from complaints from users of the public health system," said Guzmán, accompanied by the entity's military and police commanders.
"The estimated value of these inputs, according to their commercial price, is higher than 1.491 million 658 thousand bolivars," added Guzmán, after detailing the bulk of the seizure practiced in the Santa Elena sector, very close to the University of Los Andes, in the Domingo Peña parish.
The protector of Mérida has not hesitated to dismiss the irregularity as an affront against the people and against the Public Health System, since the lot of seized medicines includes vital drugs for the life support of patients with Covid-19 and in critical condition of health.
"They are medicines that come from a public institution, which must be distributed free of charge, to serve our people," said Guzmán.
Dexamethasone in ampoules, Enoxopamine in ampoules of 40, 60 and 80 milligrams; Ceftriaxone, Meropenen, Ampicillin Sulbactan, Metronidazole and Ciplofloxacin, are among others, specific medications to treat patients with covid-19.
Additionally, the batch includes sedatives for people who are intubated, as is the case with Midazolan, Fentanyl, Propofol, Diazepam. In the procedure, various probes, magnesium sulfate, physiological solutions, tracheostomy tubes, Gentamicin, Clindamycin and Ranitidine, among other drugs and supplies, were seized.
Jehyson Guzmán announced that in agreement with the Minister of Popular Power for Health, Carlos Alvarado, a supervisory and comptroller body will be appointed in Mérida, which, with the support of the ZODI, will permanently monitor the administration of medicines and supplies in the health centers.
“We will give it a legal and legal form. Without a doubt, there must be an instance that takes care of and protects the right of citizens to access medicines, sent by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, "he stressed.
For his part, the commander of the Comprehensive Defense Operational Zone (ZODI), Major General Danny Ferrer, detailed that the two involved in the illicit act were placed at the order of the Public Ministry, under investigation for alleged Doloso Own Embezzlement, crime foreseen in the Law Against Corruption (Article N ° 54), indicated the police report.
A 57-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, a nurse by profession, are those captured in the police action, which according to the protector of Mérida, Jehyson Guzmán, is an investigation that should delve into other responsibilities, inside the University de Los Andes, a sentinel center that is permanently endowed by the Ministry of Popular Power for Health.
