The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced this Monday that he will not attend the Summit of the Americas, which takes place from this 6 until June 10 in Los Angeles, California, in the United States, because not all the countries of the region were invited.
"I'm not going to the summit because not all the countries of the Americas are invited, and I believe in the need to change the policies that have been imposed for centuries," the President said.
During his customary news conference, reported the CNN chain, that the Mexican President reported that Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard will go in his place.
For López Obrador, there is a need to change the policies that have been imposed: "Exclusion, the desire to dominate without any reason, the lack of respect for the sovereignty of countries, the independence of each country," he emphasized.
"There can't be a Summit of the Americas without the participation of all the countries of the American continent," he stressed.
The final decision is due to the fact that the Government of Joe Biden took the excluded the governments of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua from the Summit of the Americas, despite the efforts of Mexico to have all the countries of the continent attend.
On the other hand, López Obrador indicated at the press conference that he plans to visit the President of the United States, Joe Biden, at the White House, in July, something that was confirmed from Washington.
"I want to address the issue of integration throughout the Americas," as well as topics such as inflation and immigration reform, the Mexican president said.
USA confirms the exclusion
On Monday, the United States confirmed its refusal to invite the leaders of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela to the Summit of the Americas, which begins in Los Angeles.
According to a Sputnik report, CNN stated: "The United States remains concerned about the lack of democratic space and the human rights situation in Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. Accordingly, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela will not be invited to this summit," the outlet reported, citing a senior US administration official.
For his part, US Undersecretary of State for the Western Hemisphere, Brian Nichols, had declared that "Cuba, Nicaragua, and the Maduro regime do not respect the Democratic Charter of the Americas" and therefore does not expect their presence.

The Summit of the Americas, or absences and exclusions, will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, California, over the next five days, from June 6 to 10.
The exclusion of Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba; and the absence of countries like Bolivia, and the member nations of Caricom, have cast doubt on the meaning of the Summit.
