According to the Brazilian analyst Claudio Ferraz, the management of President Jair Bolsonaro will be recorded "as one of the worst in the country's history, in this sense, re-election for a new period would be like rewarding that incompetence."
According to Ferraz, Bolsonaro's victory in 2018 had its effect as a result of the political crisis that originated in Brazil after the Impeachment (impeachment) of President Dilma Rousseff, which created a perfect climate for the far-right to obtain victory. .
However, the economist points out that at first Bolsonaro made great promises aimed at fighting corruption and bureaucracy, starting with the reduction of the state apparatus. "Four years later, we have a president who betrayed those promises and turned the country into a decadent turn."
As for corruption, in recent years scandals have swelled his file. Among them, the excessive purchases of medicines such as Viagra used to combat erectile dysfunction stand out, in addition to penile prostheses in complicity with some officials of his cabinet, without counting on the systematic dismantling of the state control bodies.
Ferraz adds that another aspect in which the government's policy was shown to be inefficient was health. Ferraz categorically denounces that this area "was catastrophic", since Brazil had the highest death rates as a result of covid -19, due to Bolsonaro's resistance to decreeing security measures in the use of masks (tapaboca), vaccination and confinement policies, causes that "generated thousands of excess deaths in Brazil," he said.
Bolsonaro's re-election would represent the end of Brazilian democracy as we know it today. In Brazil the rope is hanging by a thread and surely it will not last four more years”, he asserted.
Electoral panorama is loaded with polarization
Brazilians will go to the polls tomorrow in the midst of a polarized scenario. The vote separated Brazil into halves, between the inhabitants of the industrialized south of the country and those of the impoverished northeast, between evangelicals and Catholics and even between rich and poor, political analyst José Luiz Niemeyer, from the Ibmec university center, explained to EFE.
“We have a country divided and not just divided between left and right. We have to analyze where that division is deepest to understand the reasons. If it is on the religious plane, that implies customs; if it is at the level of public policies, it implies a position of defense of more or less State intervention”, he explained, while stressing that “this polarization is the consequence of totally different political positions and the profile of their governments”.
Lula proposes a Ministry of Racial Equality
In a letter sent to the website El Brasil del Mañana, the former president and candidate for the Workers' Party said that if he wins the presidential elections, he will create the Ministry for Racial Equality.
The ministerial body will have "the purpose of strengthening policies and affirmative actions to guarantee rights and promote the inclusion, participation and recognition of Brazilian society," Lula pointed out.
The letter highlights that the Live Without Limits program will be recovered, specially designed for people with disabilities and lack of resources.
Regarding freedom of worship, the PT candidate considers that "in Brazil the future must ensure respect for the other, for plurality and diversity, essential values for democracy."
