The guerrilla dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP) accepted the start of a bilateral ceasefire proposed by President Gustavo Petro.
In a video posted on YouTube, the FARC-EP dissidents stated that the bilateral ceasefire will continue "as long as we are not attacked."
"All FARC guerrilla units have been ordered to avoid confrontations with the Public Force as much as possible, as long as we are not attacked, as a mechanism to create a favorable climate and initiate with the National Government the agreements and mechanism for a bilateral ceasefire since it is imperative in order to carry out a social, political and economic agenda outlined by the Government," says a commander of the group in the video, quoted by Sputnik.
In the audiovisual material, the FARC expressed its commitment to sit down at a dialogue table with the Government, to seek future agreements.
"The FARC reaffirms its commitment to engage with the Government, in its exploratory phase, in frank dialogue in search of solutions to the social and armed conflict that our country has suffered for decades," he said.
At the end of August, the FARC-EP dissidence announced that were willing to start peace negotiations .
It should be remembered that this FARC dissidence emerged after the signing of the 2016 Peace Agreement, signed with the Colombian State. This group decided not to submit to what was signed, after four years of debate in Cuba.
