Díaz-Canel denounces the US's "brutal attempt" to "energy-strangle" the Cuban people

Trump said he does not believe a military intervention on the island is necessary, but again threatened the authorities, urging them to "absolutely" reach an agreement with Washington.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has denounced the US's "brutal attempt" to "energy-strangle" the Cuban people and thanked African leaders for rejecting this pressure on the island.

"We welcome the approval by African leaders of the resolution condemning the US blockade, which again called for the exclusion of Cuba from the unilateral List of State Sponsors of Terrorism," wrote the president in X.

"Its value is even greater in these times of the brutal attempt by the U.S. to energy-strangle our entire population," he added.

On Sunday, the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union approvedFor the 17th consecutive time, the African Union adopted a resolution condemning the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba. The document includes an explicit call from the African organization to remove the Caribbean nation from the unilateral and unjustified list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, underscoring the arbitrary nature of this designation.

For his part, US President Donald Trump said on Monday that carrying out an operation in Cuba similar to the one that culminated in the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro in Caracas is not "necessary."

"It wouldn't be a very difficult operation, as you can imagine, but I don't think it's necessary." said RT reports that he told reporters aboard Air Force One, after they asked him if he would consider a military intervention on the island if no agreement was reached.

In this regard, he again threatened the authorities, urging them to "absolutely" reach an agreement with Washington.

On January 29, US President Donald Trump, signed An executive order declaring a "national emergency" in response to the alleged "unusual and extraordinary threat" that, according to Washington, Cuba posed to the security of the United States and the region. The text accuses the Cuban government of aligning itself with "numerous hostile countries," harboring "transnational terrorist groups" such as Hamas and Hezbollah, and allowing the deployment on the island of "sophisticated military and intelligence capabilities" from Russia and China.

He then announced the imposition of tariffs on countries that sell oil to the Caribbean nation, in addition to threats of retaliation against those who act contrary to the White House executive order.
