This Monday starts the IX Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, California, United States, with the great absences of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, countries that were excluded by the Joe Biden administration for considering that they are nations that do not promote democracy in the region.
According to a note from Prensa Latina, the event is scheduled to take place from June 6 to 10, and begins this Monday with deliberations between representatives of civil society, the private sector and other meetings prior to the high-level segment in the last two days, around which unknowns persist after the refusal of several countries to attend due to the exclusion policy implemented by the United States.
Although the motto of the meeting is: "Building a sustainable, resilient and equitable future", it leaves much to think that until the last moment a response was expected from the United States to countries that demanded the inclusion of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela in the Summit, and there was decision.
Analysts point out, according to Prensa Latina, that this Summit raises major challenges for the peoples of the American continent; however, they believe that these "are not solved through exclusion, confrontation, or violence, but rather through respect for diversity and cooperation."
Rejection of exclusion
Since its convening, under the premise of excluding countries such as Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, the Summit of the Americas was seen as a failure and caused adverse reactions in various countries of the region.
Within hours of the event, it is in doubt whether the president of Mexico, Manuel López Obrador, will attend because he was one of the first voices to rise up against exclusion, arguing that all countries in the region should attend on equal terms or else you will not go to Los Angeles.
For his part, US President Joe Biden "personally wants" López Obrador to accompany him at the opening of the summit, said Juan González, chief adviser to the White House chief for Latin America.
It is then that, given the host country's refusal to be included, countries like Bolivia will not attend the Summit, as long as the United States Government maintains its policy of exclusion.
Similarly, media reports show that Guatemala, Honduras and the block of 14 Caribbean nations (Caricom) could be part of those absent from the Summit, the note said.
Likewise, the president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, had reported in recent days that he is evaluating his presence: “We are still studying it. It depends on a lot of things,” he said.
"If all the nations are not here, it is not the Summit of the Americas," remarked the Honduran president, Xiomara Castro.
Also in rejection of exclusion, Democratic congressmen led by the chairman of the House Committee responsible for legislation and oversight of foreign policy, Greg Meeks, requested through a letter to the president of the United States, Joe Biden, to invite Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela to the Summit of the Americas.
The letter was published by journalist Joshua Goodman of Associated Press through his Twitter account.
In the letter, the members of the House of Representatives warn Biden about the consequences of a policy of isolation, both for the multilateral relations of the United States and in the bilateral ones with those other countries that maintain good relations with the countries not invited to the summit: Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
As for the presidents who will attend, there is the president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, who will be the spokesman for the position of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
Maduro: fear of Bolivarianism
For his part, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, considered that the US is afraid of anti-imperialist voices.
“They try to exclude us because they are afraid of our anti-imperialist voice, they are afraid of the voice of the Bolivarians, they do not want the voice of Bolívar and Chávez to reach that meeting; but whatever they do in Washington, the voices of Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua will reach Los Angeles, in the great protests of the people,” Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said on Tuesday.
On May 19, the president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, said that he will not participate in the Summit of the Americas and pointed out that the "Yankees believe they are owners" of Latin America and the Caribbean.
"We cannot be asking the Yankee or begging him that we want to go to his Summit, no, we are not stimulated by his Summit, we are not interested," he said.
The President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz Canel, through his Twitter account, assured that the summit was conceived as a non-inclusive space since he assured that he will not attend "for any reason."
“It is known that the United States government conceived from the beginning that the Summit of the Americas would not be inclusive. It was his intention to exclude several countries, including #Cuba, despite the strong regional demand for an end to exclusions, "he posted.
rugged peaks
The VIII Summit of the Americas was held in April 2018 in Lima, Peru. On that occasion, the president of the United States was Donald Trump, who did not attend the meeting, however, all the countries of the region were invited, unlike the current one in which a setback in hemispheric relations is noted. .
peoples summit
For the activist Manolo de los Santos, faced with exclusion and the desire to divide, there is the People's Summit for Democracy, which will take place in parallel in Los Angeles.
“Since (Joe) Biden's Summit of the Americas is marked by exclusion and the imposition of a political agenda, our Summit will bring together diverse voices from all over the Americas,” said De los Santos, director of The People's Forum movement.
It is estimated that several political and social groups from Latin America and a broad participation of different sectors of the United States will be present in California, the city where the Summit of the Americas will take place.
"We have a coalition of more than 150 organizations in the United States and in Los Angeles that will support and mobilize for this people's summit," he added.

Long live free peoples…!!! Long live Bolivar, Chavez and Marti
NO to Biden's exclusion policy, the peoples are free to choose whether or not to attend any event Long live Bolívar Chávez and Martí…!!!
The US believes it owns the world and apart from that they criticize all countries because they are violators of human rights and who says anything to them. They block countries, they block the wealth of a country, they block the economy of a people. And that what they call it.
No country in South America or Central America should attend that summit of friends or lackeys
We cannot allow the empire to manipulate us as it pleases America United
For our dignity, Latin America and the Caribbean, they should not attend that summit where the North American government is, because those are the ones that do not respect democracy… look at the story.
Bravo congratulations to the governors who decided NOT TO ATTEND and the support of their sovereign peoples I veto the Yamqui
