The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, held a meeting this Wednesday with his Serbian counterpart, Aleksandar Vucic, in the midst of the international tour carried out by the Cuban president.

During the meeting, they agreed to strengthen the cooperation between the two nations.

The Cuban president described the meeting as very fruitful, and pointed out that they agreed to promote economic, commercial and investment ties in areas of common interest, such as agriculture, biotechnology, culture, sports, education, health and tourism; he refers Telesur.

At a press conference, Díaz-Canel reaffirmed the will of the island to continue strengthening the historical mutual ties of friendship and cooperation with the nation.

Similarly, he pointed out the importance of continuing to expand the existing political ties between the two countries.

Likewise, he highlighted the role of the country in the rejection of the economic and financial bloc that the island has suffered for more than 60 years by the United States (USA).

"We will conclude our visit with great optimism for the future of relations between the two countries, and with absolute confidence that they will continue to strengthen and expand, for the benefit of both peoples," the Cuban president said, as quoted by Prensa Latina.

For his part, his Serbian counterpart said he was proud of the island's president's visit, because the Serbs love the Cubans.

"We are independent, sovereign countries, and in the heart of Europe, Cuba has a people who support us," Vucic emphasized.

Europe tour

This week, the Cuban president began a tour of Europe which will take place until this Saturday, June 24.

His first visit was to Italy, where he held a meeting with the Italian head of state, Sergio Mattarella.

"Surely they will be intense days during which we will work to continue promoting and diversifying our ties in pursuit of the development of Cuba," Díaz-Canel indicated on his Twitter account.

Before his trip to Serbia, Díaz-Canel was received in The Vatican by Pope Francis.

At the meeting, "the importance of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Cuba was discussed, evoking the historic visit of Saint John Paul II in 1998, which marks the 25th anniversary."
