Congress of Peru admits to process a new motion against President Castillo

The president may personally exercise his right of defense or be assisted by a lawyer

The Congress of Peru accepted on Thursday a new motion to remove the President Pedro Castillo, under the constitutional grounds of permanent moral incapacity to hold office.

This was announced by the Peruvian Congress through its Twitter account, where it published: "The #PlenoDelCongreso approved, with 59 votes in favor, that the session to debate and vote on the request for the impeachment of President Pedro Castillo be held on December 7, at 3:00 p.m. The president may personally exercise his right to defense or be assisted by a lawyer."

Previously, the Peruvian Congress approved with 73 votes in favor, the admission of Motion 4904, which proposes declaring President Pedro Castillo permanent moral incapacity and removing him from office, according to the Twitter account of the Peruvian parliament.

third process

This is the third process of this type to which Castillo will be subjected, who raffled off a first dismissal request in December 2021, when the motion was not admitted to be processed, and a second process last March, when it received only 55 votes in favor.

Last Tuesday, the president of Congress, José Williams, announced that the governor had already been informed of the motion and on Thursday proposed that Castillo be summoned to defend himself before the plenary session on December 7, EFE reported.

In accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the regulations of Congress, in order for the request to be approved, and Castillo dismissed, the motion must have the vote in favor of at least 87 of the 130 Peruvian legislators in that plenary session.
