China sends Bolivia 3 million vaccines against Covid-19

A batch of 3 million Sinopharm vaccines against Covid-19 arrived in Bolivia, as part of a donation from China to the Andean country, so far this is the largest delivery of injectables sent by the Asian giant to Bolivia.

These vaccines will reinforce the immunization of the population between 5 and 11 years of age.

"This brings the total to 3,5 million doses donated by the Chinese government. With this batch, we have 12 million Sinopharm vaccines, which represents 58% of all the vaccines that have arrived in Bolivia. These are exclusively for people between 5 and 11 years of age," Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Benjamín Blanco told state television.

The cargo that arrived at the Cochabamba airport, transported by the state airline BOA, also included syringes.

Blanco announced that two additional shipments with lots of Moderna vaccines will arrive next weekend.

The Andean country has received donations of anticovid-19 vaccines from the governments of China, Argentina and, through the Covax mechanism, from France, Spain and the United States.

So far, the country has applied 9,5 million doses of Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Sputnik V and Johnson & Johnson vaccines (unit doses) to people over 18 years of age, reported the AFP news agency.

About 38% of the Bolivian population is fully vaccinated.

With 11,5 million inhabitants, Bolivia is going through a fourth wave of infections and accumulates to date 577.6808 infected and 19.554 deaths.
