200 cataract patients will undergo surgery in Mérida

More than 60 patients have already undergone surgery after submitting their requests through Venapp.

About 200 patients will undergo cataract surgery during a surgical campaign underway in Mérida state, Governor Arnaldo Sánchez announced.

“More than 60 patients have already been successfully operated on, thanks to the joint work of the medical staff of the Ministry of Health, the Mérida State Health Corporation (Corposalud), the University of Los Andes and the Military Pavilion, with the aim of raising the quality of life of the people of Mérida.”

He added that the procedures are performed free of charge for patients, who come from various locations within the state, including Mucuchíes, Chachantá, La Azulita, Timotes, and Tovar, among others. Beneficiaries submitted their applications through the VenApp, the Good Government's 1x10 system, and at various health outreach events.

For her part, the sole health authority, Moraima Salazar, added that surgical demands are being met through the regional plan, which has activated 33 operating rooms to serve the population in different territories.

“This is a specialized outpatient clinic that demonstrates the activation of these spaces. We have already performed more than 2.000 surgical procedures this month, including pediatric, ENT, urology, traumatology, and gynecology surgeries, while also strengthening the oncology pathway,” Salazar stated.

The beneficiary, Armada Vásquez, expressed her gratitude to the medical and nursing staff for the care she received.

“Thank you all, because at one clinic the cost of my cataract surgery on my right eye was quoted at more than $2.000. We don't have that kind of money; however, here the procedure was done free of charge,” he said.
