The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, celebrates this Wednesday the 16th anniversary of the Milagro Mission, work that has been carried out in the country with the support of the Cuban Medical Mission.
He reported that more than 6 million Latin Americans and Caribbean people have undergone surgery, at no cost, to attend to visual conditions through the Miracle Mission and that in Venezuela alone, 3 million 147 thousand 277 surgical interventions have been carried out in these 16 years.
“We dedicate our entire lives to work for our people, for our Homeland, facing all the plots of a criminal right. Every day that Venezuela passes, it will consolidate peace and stability. They will not be able to defeat us! ”Said the president.
During an address, the Head of State reported that the Mission has distributed lenses to more than 40 million people in Latin America and the Caribbean.
He stressed that the Mission has benefited Guatemala, Colombia, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, Chile, Mexico, Belize, Nicaragua, Uruguay, Peru, Paraguay, Ecuador, Brazil, Guyana, and Bolivia are some of the countries addressed by the Miracle Mission, strengthening Latin American integration.
The Head of State detailed figures on the ophthalmological care provided by the Milagro Mission in Latin American and Caribbean countries to date, which are detailed below:

He explained that during the pandemic it has been difficult to follow the treatments, but work is being done to activate them. “We must give him all the support, continue with all the support and make new expansion plans for the Milagro Mission. This entire ALBA plan will have to have special biosecurity protocols, ”said Maduro.
He stated that the Mission is a system articulated with the health system, "so that everyone who receives care in the outpatient clinic or the CDI has access to medicine, and thus we are defeating the imperial policies of economic and financial persecution against Venezuela," the head of state emphasized.
The Milagros Mission emerged in Venezuela in 2004, on the initiative of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, through the cooperation agreement with Cuba.
It is part of the expansion of the Barrio Adentro Mission to provide free attention to visual pathologies such as cataract, glaucoma, retinal detachment, cornial dystrophy, provision of lenses, among others, jointly between Venezuelan and Cuban doctors.
