This Thursday, a scientific-technical conference was held with the institutes and agencies that deal with the comprehensive approach to the sanitation of the Maracaibo lake, in Zulia state.
The Institute for the Conservation of Maracaibo lake (ICLAM), the University of Zulia (Luz), the Ministry for Popular Power for Science and Technology, and the Ministry for Fisheries are entities that are in charge of supervising and carrying out actions to keep the lake in optimal conditions.
The information was released by the Minister for Ecosocialism, Josué Lorca, who stated on his Twitter account that "an excellent scientific and technical day was held with scientists from the Institute for the Conservation of Lake Maracaibo (ICLAM), the University of Zulia, Luz, the MPP for Science and Technology, and the MPP for Fisheries."
"We had an excellent scientific and technical day with scientists from the Institute for the Conservation of Lake Maracaibo (ICLAM), the University of Zulia, Luz, the MPP for Science and Technology, and the MPP for Fisheries," the Minister posted on Twitter.
Likewise, Minister Lorca pointed out that during the day the historical average of the appearance of eutrophication processes in the lake was evaluated.
It is important to highlight that eutrophication refers to the excess contribution of inorganic nutrients (from human activities), mainly Nitrogen (N) and Phosphorus (P), in an aquatic ecosystem, producing an uncontrolled proliferation of phytoplankton algae and causing adverse effects on affected water bodies.
"The historical averages for the occurrence of eutrophication processes in the lake, which date back more than 40 years, were discussed and reviewed," he said on the social network.
process with cyanobacteria
Minister Josué Lorca indicated that his office is currently evaluating a species called cyanobacteria, which has been monitored for two months.
"We are currently experiencing a process involving a species called cyanobacteria, which we have been monitoring for two months with constant studies, and we are monitoring its toxicity and reproduction rate," he added.
Comprehensive care plan: Ministry and Popular Power
The authorities of the Ministry for Ecosocialism and Popular Power are executing a comprehensive care plan based on four vertices to optimize the sanitation of Lake Maracaibo, in Zulia state.
Noting that Lake Maracaibo is in stable salinity conditions of chemical demand and biological demand, Minister Lorca reported that together with the organized community a plan for its comprehensive approach was presented.
Four vertices: plan
In this sense, he commented that the plan includes four vertices focused on:
1.- Care of the cyanobacteria, of the critical points where it is concentrated
2.- Inspection and control of the companies that discharge their effluents into the lake
3.- Reforestation days of the four main basins that supply the lake
4.- The sanitation and waste collection system along the entire shoreline of the lake
"It is important to emphasize that the lake is in stable salinity conditions, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and biological oxygen demand (BOD). We have also presented the action plan for its comprehensive care, focusing on four key areas," the Minister posted on Twitter.
He explained that this comprehensive plan seeks to guarantee an eco-socialist Venezuela hand in hand with Popular Power.
"With this, we guarantee that, together with popular power, we empower communities to find solutions and build an eco-socialist Venezuela," he added.
