Urban fare increases for the third consecutive month through indexation

As of October 1st, a maximum fare of 220 bolivars for urban transport in Venezuelan territory came into effect.

As of October 1st, a maximum fare of 220 bolivars for urban transport in Venezuelan territory came into effect, according to the official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), responding to the scheme coordinated between the national Executive, the Ministry of Popular Power for Transport (MPPT) and the various unions after the proposals presented by the operators of the area.

This measure consolidates the third consecutive increase under the monthly indexation model agreed after the working groups of the Higher Transport Body with the national administration, continuing the previous adjustment of 200 bolivars applied on September 1 after completing the periodic reviews aimed at balancing the operating costs of the units.

The current regulations are based on the corresponding Official Gazette and give continuity to the mechanism announced on May 31, 2026 by the then Minister of Popular Power for Transportation, Jacqueline Faría, who explained at the time that "before the end of the month the fare for the value of the ticket in the month of July will be evaluated. And so on monthly."

For Sundays and holidays, the authorized fare will be 260 bolivars, applying exactly the same special rate of 260 bolivars for the service provided between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., in order to guarantee the continuous operation of public transport units.

  1. To balance the scales in this ordeal we Venezuelans are living through, why don't they index the minimum wage to the basic food basket? 😡
