The president of the Presidential Commission for the Evaluation of Infrastructure Habitability, Francisco Garcés, reported that they are making progress in the second phase of repairs, inspection and reinforcement of structures affected by the earthquakes of June 24.
"The yellow and red houses have to be properly repaired; a limited repair cannot be done because we could suffer an earthquake perhaps in 10 or 20 years, or an aftershock; therefore, the structure must be repaired adequately," he asserted in an interview for Radio Nacional de Venezuela (RNV).
"We move on to a second phase where we conduct a more detailed inspection, certify the degree of damage, and propose the equipment for repair," he added.
Regarding the individuals or condominium boards that carried out the structural repairs on their own, he assured that the National Government is currently "finishing adjusting some things, acquiring some additional measuring equipment to those that exist in the country" to carry out the corresponding evaluations of the homes that were duly registered.
In that regard, he instructed the mayoral offices to be guarantors of the process.
Garcés asserted that the joint effort seeks to guarantee the peace of mind of the people who were affected during the earthquakes that occurred on June 24.
