As part of the start of the 2026-2027 school year, the Minister of Education, Héctor Rodríguez, offered an official report on the process of returning to classrooms scheduled for this coming Monday, September 14.
During his address at the José Ávalos High School in Caracas, the Minister of Education emphasized that "an effort is being made to recover lost school time. Children's school time is sacred. If school time is not respected, it is impossible to provide children with all the planned content," he stressed.
He said the schools that were being used as temporary camps are ready for the return to classes. "One of our concerns when we opened the schools as camps was that they would be left in disrepair. However, they ended up in much better condition than they were before."
Rodríguez insisted on defending academic continuity and strict compliance with the 40 weeks of scheduled classes.
In that regard, he called on parents and guardians to ensure their children's attendance at school. "We need them to actively participate in the education of their children, grandchildren, and nephews," he stated.
He noted that the Venezuelan state continues working to protect and improve the conditions of teachers and educational institutions. “We will not rest until all schools are in better condition,” said Minister Héctor Rodríguez.
According to the figures presented, the country went from 5,5 million students in the 2024-2025 school year to 5,9 million in the 2025-2026 cycle and currently there are 6.009.000 students enrolled.
He noted that for this new period, the national government set the goal of reaching 7 million students incorporated into the system.
Furthermore, he highlighted the deployment and support of various public institutions such as public banks, sports associations and the private sector, which collaborated in the preparation of the facilities that functioned as temporary camps.
He emphasized that the collective response to the emergency demonstrated a high level of national solidarity above political differences, guaranteeing the necessary conditions for an optimal return to classes this September 14th.
