Authorities and local governments are preparing for the popular consultation on October 18.

Communication, door-to-door visits and neighborhood activation are the central pillars of the strategy

Capital authorities held a meeting this Friday with community spokespeople to coordinate actions in preparation for the Popular Consultation scheduled for October 18.

The head of the Capital District Government, Nahum Fernández, stated during the event that "every person who is part of a Community Council should know that they are part of a great history that we have written with sweat and blood, because there are people who have killed for this. Our position today has a lot to do with our consistency and coherence. There are inconsistent people in politics; we are not," he emphasized.

He explained that the preparation for the next consultation includes two fundamental elements: a communication strategy based on assemblies, the use of megaphones and door-to-door visits, as well as the active participation of residents in the nominations and internal debates.

He added that community leaders are clear about their tasks in the "complex moment" that Venezuela is experiencing. "We have said it: with the people everything, without the people nothing. The people are decisive in the Venezuelan equation," he affirmed.

"There are many people who offer opinions from outside, from other countries, and tell us things or talk to us through social media, making up stories. But the reality is known by those gathered here today, the Community Councils and Communes, and by those who see us throughout the country, those who are on the ground living day to day," he said to the representatives of the grassroots organizations.

The mayor emphasized that the communal councils have transformed the traditional political dynamic. "The Communal Council and the Commune have changed the equation and demonstrated that a grassroots government can be better than one exercised by the elites. Therefore, we must differentiate between popular government and elite government," he stated.

Nahum Fernández also emphasized that "one of the differences between the elites and grassroots government has to do with humility. To be part of a people's government, you have to be humble, because humility is the clearest path to maintaining direct contact with the people."

During the event, he urged ongoing training in community project management and emphasized the inclusive nature of people's power. In his words, once the community government is established, it must serve all inhabitants of the territory, regardless of their political stances, including opposition, independent, and abstentionist sectors.

"In other words, if there were one of those radical opponents living in your territory, let me tell you: you are the government of the area where he resides. He probably doesn't know you, but you are the government in that space. What do you have to do there? Enter into a constant process of recruitment so that we never stop adding others, establishing permanent contacts in the territory so that everyone feels part of it, because they truly are," he explained.

Finally, she emphasized the importance of communication as a cross-cutting element of social work. She explained that the cycle of popular participation requires motivating in order to educate, educating in order to organize, and organizing in order to achieve effective mobilization, concluding that the fundamental task of territorial leaders is to become great communicators within their communities.
