A total of 2.090 surgeries have been carried out during 19 days of the Communal Surgical Plan held in eight municipalities in the states of Lara, Portuguesa, Apure and Trujillo.
Since last September, 1.120 community members have benefited from free surgeries, according to the plan's coordinators, Kelly Pacheco and Mariam Martínez.
Pacheco and Martínez stated that the aforementioned program began last August with the survey and characterization of health cases in the communal territories.
Furthermore, it aims to provide a concrete solution to the health problem of the community members with the leading participation of the spokespersons of health.
This initiative has the support of the National Health System, the Comprehensive Community Health Areas (Asic), the Ministry of Health and the health departments of some states and municipalities, says a Press release of the Ministry of Communes and Social Movements.
In almost three months, the most frequently performed surgical interventions included the removal of gallbladder and kidney stones, the removal of soft tissue tumors, hernia surgery and the correction of prolapses. All cases included a preliminary medical evaluation and preoperative tests.
Pacheco and Martínez added that the program currently covers the areas of general surgery, urology, pediatrics and gynecology, through coordinated work with the National Health System and all the ASICs. In several states, this process has also involved the health departments of mayors and governors.
They also highlighted that part of the plan includes support therapies and training in preventive health. In this first stage, 1.400 spokespersons have participated in the training processes with the workshops on Biocompatible Food and Body Self-Regulation Protocols of the My Healthy Commune plan.
This plan has benefited people who previously had to wait on long lists to receive care and resolve their respective health problems.
