The Peruvian Judiciary issued a seven-day preliminary detention measure on Thursday against former President Pedro Castillo, who was arrested on Wednesday after announcing the temporary closure of Congress.
According to the judgment of the Judiciary - posted on their website -, Castillo is charged with the alleged crime of rebellion, "alternatively conspiracy."
"The Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation, headed by Judge Juan Carlos Checkley, has ordered seven days of preliminary detention against former President Pedro Castillo, who is being investigated for the crime of rebellion (alternatively conspiracy)," the Judiciary reported on the social network Twitter.
In the resolution, it is provided that the term of judicial detention is in force from December 7 to 13, 2022.
Castillo was arrested on Wednesday after ordering the dissolution of Congress, a nightly curfew, and a "Government of Exception" until elections were called to elect a new Congress.
After delivering his speech to the nation, Castillo left the Government Palace with his family and was taken by security forces to the Prefecture of the National Police of Peru (PNP) located on Alfonso Ugarte avenue, in the city of Lima. .
Castillo dissolved Congress moments before Parliament called a session to declare the vacancy against him.
However, Parliament convened a plenary session where its permanent moral incapacity to continue was declared, as well as the vacancy of the Presidency.
