Lawyer María Hurtado Ambrosio filed a lawsuit against the Peruvian State before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) on behalf of Pedro Castillo, demanding the immediate reinstatement of the deposed president, review RT.
The lawyer argues that the rights related to the freedom of the former president were violated, arrested for the crime of rebellion, and denounces an alleged political persecution by the Prosecutor's Office.
"To date, they have ordered the arbitrary detention of President Pedro Castillo Terrones, who was democratically elected. The only hope is that this IACHR urgently addresses this request, declares it well-founded, and orders Pedro Castillo Terrones' reinstatement," the document states. quoted by the local newspaper La República.
"The Attorney General, Liz Patricia Benavides Vargas, was barely sworn in as Attorney General when she threatened and created a special team to investigate President Pedro Castillo Terrones, violating Article 117 of the Peruvian Constitution," he asserts.
The Peruvian Congress removed Castillo from the presidency for "moral incapacity" after he dissolved the legislature and announced a state of emergency.
