"I request the @CIDH apply the American Convention on Human Rights and issue precautionary measures in favor of the president of Peru Pedro Castillo. The right to elect and be elected and to have an independent judging court have been violated," Petro wrote on the social network.

According to Sputnik, The Colombian president assured that, in Peru, the right to elect and be elected has been violated, as well as to have an independent court for a trial.

It should be remembered that this measure is a protection mechanism of the IACHR through which the body requests a State to protect one or more people who are in a serious and urgent situation of suffering irreparable damage.

This mechanism can be requested by any person or organization.
