The mob of migrants - mostly Venezuelans - that occurred on Sunday in Brownsville, Texas, United States, already leaves eight people dead, after the death of one of the injured in a local hospital.
The incident occurred when a car, driven by a Hispanic man from Brownsville, ran over a group of people who were waiting at a bus stop in front of a shelter for the homeless, Centro Obispo Enrique San Pedro Ozanam, converted into a shelter for immigrants, due to the high number of migrants passing through the area.
According to the authorities -refers TeleSur– The driver was held by several witnesses to the events until the police arrived.
Between 20 and 25 migrants were sitting on the sidewalk waiting for a bus across the street from the shelter when they were struck. It was after the event that it was known that most of the victims were Venezuelans.
The person in charge of the Obispo Enrique San Pedro Ozanam Center, Víctor Maldonado, said that he reviewed the surveillance video of the shelter after receiving a call in which he was informed of the accident.
In this sense, he pointed out that the bus stop is located on the other side of the street from the shelter and is not signposted, in addition to lacking a bench to sit on.
Before the event, Venezuela urged the US to clarify the facts and expressed its solidarity with the victims and family members.
