This Tuesday, by unanimous vote of the 277 deputies that make up the National Assembly (AN), the Agreement to Support the Application of the "Henry Reeve" International Contingent of Doctors Specializing in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics was approved by the Nobel Peace Prize Committee and the Norwegian Parliament.
This agreement where the Venezuelan parliamentarians urge the election of this brigade of Cuban doctors for the Nobel Peace Prize, was presented by Deputy Tania Díaz, who highlighted the virtues and merits accumulated by this health contingent that has been deployed for more from 80 countries to tackle diseases such as malaria, smallpox and now covid-19.
"The Henry Reeve Brigade is a beautiful gesture of genuine proletarian internationalism, organized and funded by the humble Cuban people who understood it was a sin not to help their brothers and sisters in 2005, who were suffering the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina in the United States," he recalled.
For his part, Representative Luis Romero, on behalf of the opposition bloc, expressed his support for this agreement in recognition of the humanitarian work of this contingent of Cuban doctors, while also calling for recognition of the work of Venezuelan health personnel for the daily battle they are waging against COVID-19, "even putting their lives at risk, some giving them up in this fight."
For his part, Deputy Pedro Infante, intervened to support the request of his partner Luis Romero and maintained that the heroism of Venezuelan doctors and nurses are recognized by the Government and the people of Venezuela.
He also highlighted the contribution that the Cuban medical brigades that continue in the country as part of the Barrio Adentro Mission have made to save lives in Venezuela.
