The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced on Tuesday the suspension of the Pacific Alliance summit, which would take place this week in the Aztec nation.
This, in the absence of the president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, whose Congress dome prevents you from traveling.
"The meeting of the Pacific Alliance was suspended because the president of Peru was not allowed to attend, since he is the president (of the organization), he was going to receive it here, and we are exploring the possibility of holding an event in Peru," López Obrador said at his daily press conference, quoted by Sputnik.
In this regard, it was also reported that the presidents of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, and the president-elect of Brazil, Luiz Inacio 'Lula' da Silva, also canceled their trip.
Regarding the summit, the Mexican president said that the possibility of holding an event in Peru in December or "making a decision" is being evaluated.
It should be remembered that the Pacific Alliance was born as an economic and development initiative between four Latin American nations: Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
From that moment to date, the Alliance has become the axis of a new way of doing business on the continent.
Bilateral meetings with Chile and Ecuador
Within the framework of the summit, a meeting would be held with the presidents of Chile, Gabriel Boric; and Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso.
Regarding this, the Mexican president pointed out that these meetings will continue.
The visits of the presidents of Chile, Gabriel Boric, and of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, will take place as bilateral meetings.
"Tomorrow, Wednesday [November 23] in the afternoon, President Boric will be with us, and I can tell you in advance that President Lasso and President Petro are coming to a bilateral meeting, they are the ones who will be with us," added the host president.
