Eighty-three years after his stellar debut, "Superman" still has many threats to face and countless people to protect. Despite his fame, he wasn't always recognized as the unbeatable "Man of Steel," as the series "Smallville" demonstrated when it premiered on the small screen 83 years ago.
The release of the project dates from October 2001 and was broadcast on the Warner Channel screen, with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar as its main drivers.
The cast included Tom Welling ("Cheaper by the Dozen"), Kristin Kreuk ("Edgemont"), Michael Rosenbaum ("Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2"), Allison Mack ("Wilfred"), Erica Durance ("Supergirl"), James Marsters ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), among others.
"It was only 20 years ago that #smallville premiered," Welling fondly recalled on her official Instagram account.
Special edition
A few months ago, I announced that for the first time "Smallville" was preparing a special Blu-ray edition and that it would be released on October 19th with the aim of celebrating its twentieth anniversary.
The proposal, titled "The Smallville: The Complete Series 20th Anniversary Edition," would contain all 218 episodes of the series and 28 hours of previously unreleased bonus features, such as a production review, deleted and extended scenes, and other surprises.
On the other hand, it is worth noting that some of its protagonists were enthusiastic about this release on Blu-ray, reported the Top Profes portal.
"We were children"
"I can't believe it's been 20 years. The more I thought about it, the more I was like, 'Wow, we were just kids!' It's been 20 years, and a lot has happened, and it was just a moment in time!" Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) said in an interview.
For his part, Welling still can't believe it's been ten years since the last episode aired. "And with the Blu-ray coming out, I can't wait for everything to look even more spectacular. The first thing I'm going to look for is the pilot episode, and I'm also going to look at the episode where Lex Luthor and Clark switch bodies. That was a fun experience for me, and I want to see how it's portrayed on the Blu-ray," he said.
Likewise, the antagonist of the third season of "Lucifer" added: "I like to remember that I was doing a scene on another set and sneak up just to enjoy what I was doing at that moment. It's like I'm enjoying myself," Tom Welling noted.
What's the story about?
The series tells the adventures of young Clark Kent (Tom Welling) before becoming the famous "Superman," thus demonstrating the origins of his abilities and how he began his altruistic work by protecting "Smallville," his hometown, from various imminent dangers.
Likewise, the program touches on the typical youthful problems of its protagonist, especially when he tries to lead a normal life in high school and make his supernatural gifts invisible.
The interesting thing about this proposal is that we saw how Clark and Lex Luthor established a friendship before becoming enemies, a bit similar to the relationship between Magneto and Professor Charles Xavier in the "X-Men."
Little by little, Kent began to accept his destiny until he positioned himself as the most famous and beloved superhero in the world.
How many seasons did it have?
"Smallville" last aired in May 2011, so fans were able to enjoy the character's origins for ten years.
The first four seasons focus on Clark and his friends during high school, but from the fifth season the series changes its concept with more adult situations and the inclusion of elements such as the Fortress of Solitude and the Phantom Zone.
Later appear both superheroes and DC villains, including Aquaman, Green Arrow, Cyborg, Supergirl, Superboy, Martian Manhunter, General Zod and Vandal Savage.
