The Japa Mala is a string or rosary of 108 spherical beads, generally made of seeds or wood, used in Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism to recite mantras or the names of deities. Its name originates from the meaning of the word JAPA in Sanskrit, which is to pray in a low voice or inwardly and MALA which refers to garland. Made up of 108 beads, corresponding to a sacred number related to the 12 astrological houses, multiplied by the 9 planets in our Solar System. In Hinduism, the number 108 has a mystical importance, since it is considered a perfect three-digit digit, a multiple of three, whose sum of its digits is equal to 9, which is three times three. Within feng Shui they are used to focus the mind and concentrate when meditating or reciting mantras. We relate the sum of its 108 accounts with the 9 houses or palaces of the magic square of LO SHU. The correct way to use the Japa Mala is to place it in the right hand, supporting it on the middle finger or middle finger and with the thumb the beads are dragged while repeating the mantra or prayer, always making the rosary advance forward. The most traditional are those of Rudraksha, Bodhi, Lotus, Sandalwood and semi-precious stones.
