The Chinese New Year, known as the "Lunar New Year" or "Spring Festival", is the most significant celebration in China. It is defined as the first day of the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar. Unlike the western calendar, which is based on a solar calendar, the Chinese eastern calendar is based on a lunisolar calendar, that is, the date indicates both the phase of the moon and the time of the solar year.
The Chinese lunar calendar dates from 2.637 BC. C being the longest chronological record in history. One cycle of this calendar lasts 60 years and is made up of five simple cycles of 12 years each. Cycle 78 began in February 1984 and will end in February 2044.
Twelve animals were assigned to each of the 12 years, as legend has it, the Buddha summoned all the animals in front of him before he left Earth; and only twelve animals showed up. As a reward, he named a year after each one in the order they arrived. First it was the Rat, then the Ox, the Tiger, the Rabbit, the Dragon, the Snake, the Horse, the Goat, the Monkey, the Rooster, the Dog and the Pig. Thus, we have the twelve animal signs of the Chinese horoscope. The animal that rules the year you were born has a profound influence on your life.
On February 1, 2022, the Chinese New Year is celebrated, the festivities last for 15 days until the Full Moon.
