The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced on Thursday the resumption of its relations with Venezuela after having suspended them in 2019 due to issues of government recognition. as reported in a statement by the managing director, Kristalina Georgieva.
Venezuela has been a member of the IMF since December 1946. Relations with Venezuela were suspended in March 2019 due to issues related to government recognition.

It is a significant achievement for the country to regain access to and be recognized by the IMF, because we will be able to restart the country's modernization plans, such as those related to electricity and railway infrastructure, which are key to a country's development. During the Fourth Republic, the loans obtained from the Fund were used for personal gain and divided among themselves—AD, Copei, URD, and finally, at the last minute, the MAS—and they bankrupted the country.
