Venezuelan trombonist Mayerlin Carrero is solidifying her international profile by joining Colombian star Karol G's band on her Viajando por el Mundo Tour. Amidst a busy schedule of concerts in massive venues across the United States, the artist from Táchira is promoting her new album, "Mayerlin Carrero y La Trombonera," now available on all major digital platforms.
The album, recorded over three years, brings together a group of 20 trombonists and 25 guest musicians from Venezuela, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Cuba to explore the sounds of Latin music and Venezuelan tradition through seven tracks.
Inspired by the spontaneous dynamics of the trombone section of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, the project reclaims the instrument's leading role within the Latin American repertoire. "Trombonera comes from caimanera, those spontaneous, informal gatherings where you enjoy yourself freely," the performer explained, detailing the origin of an album that features arrangements of pieces by composers such as Simón Díaz and Rubén Blades.
Looking ahead to his next projects, Carrero plans to visit the country to conduct training activities and exchanges in his hometown of San Cristóbal. “Returning to Venezuela is always an idea that excites me greatly; being able to go and share with the new generations would be a privilege,” he says.
Among her other activities, along with her brothers Pedro and Yefren, she founded the Carrero Musical Atelier, helping instrumentalists and artists with a pedagogy largely inspired by what they learned in Venezuela's El Sistema, the national system of orchestras: “My brother Yefren has been developing this project in France for several years. Since September 2025, we've been running Atelier Carrero USA, and due to my tour with Karol G, we're currently offering online classes to help our students achieve their academic and musical goals. Without a doubt, El Sistema is in my DNA, as a musician, as a Venezuelan; everything I do is inspired by it. Our intention is to motivate, teach, and share our passion for music.”
