Security agencies are maintaining a close relationship with the Los Chevrolet gang, one of the oldest in Aragua, whose leader, Manuel Antonio Alvarado Román, has attempted to reorganize the gang from Colombia, according to information provided Wednesday night by the Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello.
"They're moving people from the gangs... they're trying to reorganize a Los Chevrolet gang in Aragua. The Chevrolet gang member is in Colombia, but he's trying, sending his people," Cabello explained, referring to alias Manuel Chevrolet, the current leader of the aforementioned criminal gang.
To counter this attempted resurgence of the criminal group, the government has deployed a special operation in Aragua, including tracking the state's rural areas where the suspects are holed up.
In this operation, security agencies, both police and military, have killed four members of Los Chevrolet in the municipality of Ezequiel Zamora (Villa de Cura). One of those killed is Darwin José Martínez Oviedo (El Arepita), who was in charge of reorganizing the group on instructions from Manuel Chevrolet.
They believe they are moving members of that cell across the Táchira-Colombia border to bring them to Aragua. Specifically in Táchira, a son of Manuel Chevrolet was detained, reported Cabello, who described the aforementioned group as "what's left of the Aragua Train here in Venezuela."
The Minister also confirmed that two members of the Tren del Llano group were killed. According to other sources, the victims are known as El Churrito and Ojitos, who were killed during a confrontation in the Guanape Valley (Anzoátegui), as reported by Últimas Noticias on Wednesday.
"That's what this opposition criminal group is doing, bringing criminals into Venezuela to generate violence in the days leading up to July 27," the Minister said, referring to the municipal elections called by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
Manuel Chevrolet and Niño Guerrero
Alias Manuel Chevrolet was held in the Aragua Penitentiary Center, located in Tocorón, organizing cells of the so-called Tren de Aragua together with Héctor Guerrero Flores (Niño Guerrero).
The leader of Los Chevrolet escaped from the so-called Tocorón Prison days before the Ministry of the Interior took over the prison, a procedure carried out on September 20, 2023. The suspect was aware of this operation and Niño Guerrero sent him to prepare the logistics for the escape of the central command of the Tren de Aragua, according to the Public Ministry's investigations.
Currently, both Manuel Chevrolet and Niño Guerrero are in Colombia, serving those organizing plans to destabilize Venezuela with a view to overthrowing President Nicolás Maduro, as the head of state himself denounced on July 29 and 30, 2024, following the presidential elections.
