The Ministry for Ecosocialism, through the Anzoátegui Territorial Ecosocialist Unit (UTEC), launched an investigation this Thursday to find those responsible for the mistreatment of a tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla), a fact that was revealed after the dissemination of a video that went viral on social networks.
The procedure was activated jointly with the Coordination for Environmental Impact Assessment and Control, the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), the Scientific, Criminal and Forensic Investigations Corps (CICPC), and the Simón Bolívar Municipal Police. The case was also referred to the 21st Prosecutor's Office with jurisdiction over Environmental Defense in Anzoátegui State, according to a press release from the institution.
According to the recorded audiovisual material, the attack against the specimen of wild fauna occurred in the vicinity of the coastal avenue of Barcelona and was perpetrated by a group of motorcyclists.
Currently, authorities are conducting investigations and inquiries in the adjacent communities, under the suspicion that those involved reside near the scene of the events.
UTEC Anzoátegui called on citizens to collaborate in identifying the individuals through anonymous reports sent to the direct messaging of the Instagram account @ecosocialismoanzoategui_ve, guaranteeing the protection of the informants' integrity.
