Ten rifles believed to have been used in terrorist attacks were found in a warehouse in El Morro, Puerto Santo, Sucre, Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello reported during a press conference last Tuesday. "These weapons are not for drug protection," Cabello clarified, adding that the weapons brought from Trinidad and Tobago were intended for use in the plans to wreak havoc in Venezuela, the initial stage for the overthrow of President Nicolás Maduro.
In addition to the 10 rifles, security agencies seized a grenade launcher, eight GPS units, two radio transmitters, and seven telephones, one of which was a satellite phone.
During the operation known as Operation El Morro, Elvis Luis Rodriguez Marval, Dennys Rafael Cedeno Vasquez, Ruben Dario Leal Lugo, Alfredo Jesus Narvaez Rivero, Albert Rafael Baliza Reyes, Carlos Manuel Espinoza Uzcategui and Omar Jose Serrano Gonzalez were arrested.
All of these individuals report to Marco José Valbuena Rodríguez (Patas Largas), who migrated from Zulia to Sucre to coordinate drug trafficking and weapons receiving operations. Trinidadian Kendell Jerome Gibbs was in charge of transporting the weapons, Cabello reported.
