Karina said goodbye to her 2023 online concert series with a tribute to Menudo. The Venezuelan singer, who could not help but criticize Bad Bunny again, confessed that the Puerto Rican group is part of her adolescence.
"Tonight we're going to pay tribute to one of the groups I grew up with. I grew up with this group and was lucky enough, eventually, to perform with them in my first soap opera, 'Alba Marina.' So Johnny, Xavier, René, Miguel—oh, so many, so many..." the vocalist expressed before starting the show.
He later noted that the group is "definitely the greatest of all time. And it's really from there that all the youth groups came. Menudo really is a historic thing."
- The artist was accompanied by her usual band at these shows, made up of Javier Mendoza (direction and keyboard) and Pedro Navarro (guitar and vocals). Mabe Hernández Borjas and Adrián Matos, for their part, were in charge of production.
- "Claridad," a song originally released by Italian artist Stella Stai, was the song Karina chose to begin her musical tribute to the Puerto Rican boy band. It was followed by "Cuando pasará," which she chose to cover with Draco Rosa (Robbie Rosa during his time with the group).
- "That song is very deep. It was originally sung by Miguel (Cancel). Here we did the version he did. Dpink raco, who, although many don't know it, actually wrote Ricky Martin's first hits… 'Living la vida loca…'. I love him, he's extremely relevant today for everything he's composed and he's a very spiritual individual," the Venezuelan said about the former menudo.
- "Quiero ser," the title track of the band's eighth album and the telenovela they recorded in Venezuela, was the third song performed live. The repertoire, shorter than usual because of all the talking Karina did, closed with "El ayer," a ballad that became known through the voice of René Farrait.
- "Cheers to the wonderful past we lived together... We lived in a naive, beautiful, clean time, filled with hope, joy, and color. The truth is that things have changed so much today, many for the better, and yet another, notably so," he noted.
Between jokes and comments with her musicians and production team, Karina also emphasized that there are things she really enjoys about music and others she doesn't. At this point, Bad Bunny's "appointment" as the new "King of Pop" came up.
"I didn't want to go there, but Bad Bunny has balls... If Victoria's Secret calls me tomorrow to do the fashion show (...) I'd say: 'I can't, my butt is hanging off.' You understand, I won't accept it because that's not who I am," she commented.
"So, people who accept it and keep their mouths shut and say, 'Yeah, I'm the new King of Pop... Forgive me.' Or not, it's the strange people who do that kind of thing, who pay that kind of respect. But who the hell do you think you are, giving the same epithet or title as Michael Jackson to a piece of shit like Bad Bunny," he said.
And he added: "Forgive me, you can attack me tomorrow on social media however you want... I love Bad Bunny, I dance to him, I've seen him on 'Sturday Night Live,' I think he's a wonderful phenomenon, but I think you have to put things in perspective. To begin with, that man doesn't sing pop, which is a genre. What he does is reggaeton. And the King of Pop already existed and died, but he will live forever because we're talking about a legend... Enough with this. I refuse, I don't accept it. And people with a bit of judgment don't accept it either."
