In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, American actress Jennifer Coolidge recalled when Ariana Grande invited her to appear in her music video for “Thank U Next.” During the conversation, the host of the show showed the Boston native some of the impressions that other guests on the show did of her.
The “34+35” singer’s imitation also had a huge impact on the comedian’s career. “You should know that that was the beginning of nice things for me, because I was going through a dead zone and not much was happening,” she said.
The Hollywood star said that after Ariana Grande imitated her on the late-night talk show, she was once again taken into account.
“My friend who’s about her age, Theresa, advised me to DM her on Instagram, and I thought it was a good imitation and I was like, ‘No, she’s got like 260 million followers. ’ Those are robots. Robots respond to DMs! We’ll never ever get through to her. And I did it anyway and she responded back, and the next thing I know I was at her house doing costume fittings to be in her ‘Thank U Next’ music video,” Jennifer Coolidge added.
Indeed, for the clip of Ariana, who played Fiona in "Cinderella: The New Age," a film in which she shared credits with Hilary Duff, she had her own cameo as her character in "Legally Blonde," a manicurist named Paulette Bonafonté.
The actress also made a tremendous confession to Jimmy Fallon. When talking about her participation in the series "The White Lotus", Coolidge said that she had not initially planned to participate in the project.
"I was looking for a medical excuse to get out of it, something that sounded believable like... partial hip problem," the 60-year-old said. "Then Mike White (the director) texted me and asked 'are you scared' and I saw God for real," she continued.
However, she said her brother called her an idiot for not wanting to be a part of the project, which was filmed in Hawaii, and ended up being convinced that she should.
