They estimate that some 400 vaccines will be administered in communities in Puerto Páez, Apure state, as the Andean Border Vaccination Week begins in the plains region.
The information was provided by the National Director of Immunizations of the Ministry of Popular Power for Health, Eloísa Garrido, who explained that the initiative seeks to close gaps in the regular scheme by actively searching in squares and parks for infants, children aged one and five, school children and pregnant women.
According to Garrido, the states of Amazonas, Bolívar, Táchira and Zulia are joining this operation.
During the days, free doses of pentavalent vaccine, MMR vaccine against measles, rubella and mumps were administered —with a preventive emphasis in light of the regional measles alert—, as well as oral and injectable formulas against poliomyelitis, yellow fever, tetanus and diphtheria.
Health authorities reiterated their call to families on both sides of the border with the Colombian department of Vichada to present their health cards at healthcare centers to receive guidance from qualified personnel.
For their part, Gerardo Silva Herrera, representing the Jiwi indigenous communities, expressed his gratitude to national, regional, and municipal authorities for prioritizing local sectors in the implementation of the plan. He also called upon residents of surrounding areas and border zones to visit the available clinics to ensure the collective well-being of the community.
